In an era when people often wash their hands before and after going to the bathroom, it is important to know how to properly clean your home, according to a recent study.
The study, carried out by the Australian Institute of Family Studies, found that the average home in Australia was clean in 20% of instances, compared to 40% for households with children.
The institute conducted the survey with a focus on the health and well-being of families in a “small, urban area”.
The results are published in the journal PLOS ONE.
Researchers found that in all 20% households, there was “sufficient” toilet-cleaning.
“What we found is that most households don’t have the means to do their own clean-up,” study author Dr Michelle Atherton told the ABC.
“They don’t own a toilet.
They don’t know how clean it is, they don’t even know how often to flush it, they just don’t do it.”
So they’re just cleaning up the toilet with a bucket or a sponge, or a plastic bag.
It’s not a good environment.
“Dr Atherston says while many people in Australia are not aware of the importance of proper toilet hygiene, the findings highlight the importance for people to “make the effort” to clean their homes.”
Most people are not even aware of how important it is to clean toilets regularly,” she said.”
If you’re a parent, you know that when your child goes to school or school work, they need to clean the toilet regularly.”AAP
