New Jersey Devils star Zach Parise and Detroit Red Wings winger Gustav Nyquist are among the hottest players in the NHL right now.
But their recent moves have sparked a lot of debate, with fans and media asking how this two-time Stanley Cup champions managed to be so good in the first place.
What started out as a relatively normal season for the Devils was turned on its head with Parise’s trade to the Nashville Predators.
The move sent a clear message to the rest of the league: You can’t have a star like Parise who has an insane cap hit.
His $8 million cap hit in 2022 is just the start of his cap hit that jumps to $12 million in 2023.
Parise has since struggled with injuries and a lack of chemistry with Nyquist, who has a history of concussions.
Nyquist’s contract is one of the largest in the league and was a part of the deal that sent Alex Ovechkin and Connor McDavid to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“I was like, ‘What the hell, Parise is on the ice for three weeks and he’s in here with Nystrom and Parise,’ ” Nyquist said of the trade.
Nyquist said he’s not sure what the future holds for Parise, but he’s sure that there will be some moves he’ll see coming in 2021. “
The Devils signed defenseman Zach Bogosian to a two-year, $4 million deal to fill that void.
Nyquist said he’s not sure what the future holds for Parise, but he’s sure that there will be some moves he’ll see coming in 2021.
He also has a message for the rest.”
“You get what you pay for. “
You can take that contract, go anywhere else. “
You get what you pay for.
It’s not about who is the best player in the world, but who is a good guy and who’s the guy that you want to work with.”
