The trend of wearing makeup is back, with the number of Americans buying eye makeup doubling in the past year.
And in 2018, the number rose to its highest level in three decades, according to new research from beauty brand Estée Lauder.
But if you are looking for something more edgy, the trend of women’s head hair has been on a roll, too.
Last year, the top five trends in hairstyles for women were “facial hair”, “head hair”, and “braid” as defined by Cosmopolitan.
Cosmo says that “briar” is now “the top trend in women’s hair,” which was first reported by the Huffington Post in May 2018.
The trend has been going strong for a while.
The number of women wearing head hair jumped almost 60% between 2016 and 2018, according the company.
The company’s chief brand officer, Michelle McEachern, said the trend was in part a reaction to the increased popularity of Instagram and Snapchat.
“When you’re Instagramming, it’s so much more intimate and private,” she said.
“We wanted to make sure that people felt comfortable in that space.”
So far this year, there has been a surge in Instagram posts of women looking beautiful in head-to-toe hair extensions.
“Head hair is super hot right now, and it’s the hottest trend in beauty right now,” one Instagram user wrote in June.
“So if you have that to look good and feel good, go for it!”
In June, another Instagram user posted a photo of her wearing a pair of earrings with a “fade in” hair accessory that would make her look like she had shaved.
In June 2017, Estée Luneau tweeted, “I’m a makeup artist so I’m very proud of my hair.
If you want to be a better person, it has to be beautiful.”
The makeup brand Estee Lauder released a statement this week in response to the uptick in head hair trends.
“The number of products we are adding to our line are a testament to the popularity of head-in-the-sand style and the need to keep up with trends,” the statement read.
“This trend is so prevalent that we feel it is essential to continue to invest in our makeup collection to ensure our customers always feel comfortable in our products and look great on their faces.”
