The man who tried to steal another man’s car in Melbourne’s CBD has been charged with theft and aggravated assault.
The 26-year-old was allegedly seen trying to get into a car parked on a busy street in the CBD in the early hours of Friday.
Footage on the man’s phone showed him taking out his phone and taking a few steps.
It was then he was allegedly tackled by the driver of the car who managed to get away, with the police describing it as “a pretty serious incident”.
Police were called and arrested the man in the street.
A warrant for his arrest has now been issued and he will appear in court later this week.
The man was charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and is due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
